Snyder Signs Bill Allowing Roadside Donations
WILX.com reports that Michigan Governor Rick Snyder has signed a bill into law that will allow for roadside donations in the state. For years, the popular Muscular Dystrophy Association's "Fill The Boot" campaign has teamed up with firefighters to raise funds at stoplights in Michigan towns. Apparently, that was not legal for all of these years. It is now.
But, there are some stipulations. Organizations must carry $500,000 of liability insurance to raise funds at Michigan intersections. And, stoplights or stop signs must be present at those intersections.
Given those stipulations, it does not appear to give protection for street side panhandlers.
Even with the law's stipulations, there is some concern from the public safety community. See all sides of opinion by visiting this link to the WILX report.
