Shocking Statistics on Minorities and Crime
Some of the most dangerous cities in the country are right here in Michigan. And a new survey indicates that most of the victims of violence are African American. In fact, an anti-violence group says the numbers show that black residents are being killed in this state at one of the highest rates in the entire country.
The Violence Policy Center says statistics from 2011, show that more than a third of every 100,000 African Americans in Michigan were homicide victims. That rate is second only to Nebraska and Missouri. The rate in Michigan is also twice the national average.
The Washington-based group also says the great majority of those killed were shot and call gun violence in this country a "public health crisis."
