Temperatures are forecast for the mid to upper 60's across Mid-Michigan Thursday (April 9, 2015). And with the warm up also comes the chance for Lansing's first severe thunderstorm event of 2015. According to this article at mlive.com, the Storm Prediction Center has increased the chance of severe storms in our region. Thunderstorms have been in the forecast for Lansing all week. But, meteorologists are now giving us a 30-45 percent chance of seeing severe weather in Lower Michigan. The National Weather Service Hazardous Weather Outlook calls for the chance of damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes Thursday afternoon and evening, citing the main threat to come between 3:00PM Thursday and 1:00AM Friday.

According to the mlive.com article, forecasters are expecting the strongest weather activity to be located near an approaching warm front. We know the front will reach Mid-Michigan at some point, but exactly when it reaches our region is the key. If the front approaches in the late afternoon and early evening, the entire lower half of the state could see a widespread severe weather event.
