Rep. Justin Amash Quits the Republican Party

In an op-ed in the Washington Post Thursday morning, Michigan Representative Justin Amash announced that he is leaving the Republican party.

"Today, I am declaring my independence and leaving the Republican Party," Amash wrote.

Amash made headlines earlier this year when he was the only member of the Republican party to publicly state that he believed that President Donald Trump had engaged in impeachable conduct.

Prior to running as a Republican for the his current position in Michigan's third district, Amash was a staunch Libertarian.
