I've been debating writing this post, but I think it's gotten to the point for some real talk now because something has got to give.

I've seen fewer masks worn lately, which is up to you at the end of the day, but that's not the purpose of this post.

The purpose of this post is to remind you about that golden rule. I know personally I was taught about it back in grade school. Do you remember what it is? Even if you were never taught about it in school, I know you know what the rule is.

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” - Golden Rule.

I've seen a lack of respect in public places lately. I've heard F-slurs dropped due to a polite employee asking customers to wear a mask, or even just an 'I'm the only one in the room' mentality.

At this point, we are all over the pandemic. But it by no means gives you the right to treat anyone with disrespect who is just following the rules set forth by the state/government. Face masks are still required to be worn in public spaces, whether the executive orders are there are not.

So let's remember something here. We all go through things in a day. We do all have bad days. If you get treated a little differently or don't get service immediately while at a store or restaurant, let's remember that you don't have to be there all day, nor do you know what it's been like all day. Those people are there for the majority of their day, dealing with tons of ups and downs, just like you do at your job.

Sure, we all have days. But that by no means gives anyone the right to disrespect anyone.

As a service worker myself, I'm willing to give you the best deal and to help make your day. However, the amount of respect I receive from you is dependent on the type of service you're about to get. And as a service worker, I've been mistreated more than a few times this week while working, by people who are not following that golden rule.

It's still a pandemic folks, and it's still a rule that has never changed and should never change. So what gives?

Just be respectful. Love your neighbor, and let's get through this all together.
