The Governor has signed a bill that will open up a new way to purchase adult beverages in Michigan, and make it easier for manufacturers and retailers to sell them. We're talking about pre-mixed cocktails in a can.

This idea came from a bi-partisan bill that creates jobs and helps small businesses grow, according to Governor Whitmer. Michigan's distilling industry is growing in our state, and this bill makes it easier to get the products to market. It will also make canned mixed spirts more available and affordable, and in the long run that creates jobs in our state.

Fox 47 reports

“Ready-to-drink cocktails have experienced massive growth in the marketplace over the last few years and this legislation is a critical piece in ensuring that these products are able to compete on a level playing field,” Sen. Curt VanderWall, who sponsored one of the bills, said. “These bills help our local distillers by removing tax barriers and giving them the ability to get their products in front of consumers easily and quickly.”
These Senate Bills would allow and create a large variety of canned cocktails to be served in Michigan. In the past there was a cap of 10% alcohol by volume. The new legislation will allow private wholesalers to sell their canned cockatails going as high as 13.5% alcohol-by-volume.

The new canned cocktails will be all the rage before long, and I’m sure will also become popular in our new Social Drinking zones that are popping up around the state. And for establishments that are licensed to sell cocktails to go, these would be a natural.
