Spring is coming to Lake Michigan and Pronto Pups on the boardwalk in Grand Haven has set their opening date.

Since 1947, Pronto Pups have been hawking hot dogs from their tiny building on Harbor Drive in Grand Haven, where the Grand River flows into Lake Michigan. The menu is minuscule too: Pronto Pups and drinks- cash only. The walk-up window opens for the 2019 season on April 5.

It's not just a corn dog. Pronto Pups are worth every penny you spend on gas for the drive to the Lakeshore to grab a handful. The faithful line the sidewalk and a wait of 30 minutes to upwards of an hour or more is not uncommon in the Summer. Pronto Pup sold t-shirts a couple of years ago with this question:

  • Don't you wish your wiener was this good after 60 years?

Owners Carl and Nancy Wilson shared the good news of the opening date on the Pronto Pup Facebook page:

If you all were anything like us, you doubted, several times, the chances that you’d make it through this winter. But look! We made it! And we think we should all celebrate together with some Pups. We have already put things in motion to get ready to open April 5! Our hours will be 11-9 for April and then we’ll be open 11-10 starting in May. Let’s cross our fingers the sun hangs around until then. We can’t wait to see you all and usher in spring and summer! See you April 5!
