For the past month and a half, we have been on the search for a local middle or high school choir that is going to be able to sing at the Wings Event Center on May 19 in Kalamazoo with the legendary rock band Foreigner. The "Sing At Wings" contest came down to Pennfield high school in Battle Creek and Portage Northern high school. It was an incredible run and the voting became intense during the last 24 hours.

At the end of the contest, there had been over 37,000 votes cast between the two schools. Unbelievably, Pennfield had to lead almost the entire time. That was all the way up until the last day when the Portage community came together and rally behind Portage Northern as they were able to take the lead and ultimately the victory.

Both of the schools did an amazing job and would have both been amazing on stage, but unfortunately, only one choir could win, and in the end, it was Portage Northern with 51% of the votes. That tells you just how close this entire thing was. It’s going to be a busy weekend with Roofsit in full effect, but we will take a break and definitely be attending the Foreigner show on May 19 at the Wings Event Center as we get to watch Portage Northern high school choir sing "I Want To Know What Love Is" with the band.

Foreigner is also going to be giving that choir program $500 as well. We hope another opportunity like this opens up again in the future. We congratulate both high schools for giving a valiant effort and look forward to seeing portage northern on the stage at what will be the biggest opportunity of their young lives so far.
