MONROE, Mich. (AP) — Another round of bitter cold is moving into Michigan as parts of the state dig out from record-breaking snowfall.

Highs are expected around 20 degrees Thursday in the Detroit area before the temperature plunges. The National Weather Service warns of wind chill temperatures 20 to 25 degrees below zero statewide into Friday.

The cold comes after about 8 inches of snow fell on parts of southern Michigan starting Tuesday. Schools are closed Thursday a second consecutive day in Monroe County, which was hard hit.

In western Michigan, a woman and baby died Wednesday after a car went into a snowbank and was hit by a pickup.

The weather service says Wednesday's 7.6 inches at Detroit Metropolitan Airport in Romulus broke a Feb. 5 record dating to 1908 of 5 inches.
