Pier 1 Imports is looking to close store operations as soon as possible, after the company had already filed for bankruptcy.

The company filed a motion, looking to seek approval from the courts to close stores as soon as they can, according to WILX.

According to Robert Riesbeck, this was not the outcome the company was looking for after filing for bankruptcy.

“This decision follows months of working to identify a buyer who would continue to operate our business going forward,” Riesbeck said. "Unfortunately, the challenging retail environment has been significantly compounded by the profound impact of COVID-19, hindering our ability to secure such a buyer and requiring us to wind down.”

The Lansing area Pier 1 Imports on Market Place Blvd already closed their doors back in January.

For other Pier 1 stores, liquidation sales will begin as soon as they can open after COVID-19.
