Northwest Naturals, a pet food company based in Portland, Oregon, has issued a recall on some of their pet food they recently distributed.

The recall effects cat food that was stolen in the state of Michigan. There are 2-pounds of Feline Turkey Recipe raw frozen cat food after it tested positive for the H5N1 avian influenza virus.

What Exactly Is H5N1?

H5N1, which is also known as avian influenza A (H5N1) or bird flu, is a very contagious virus that primarily affects birds but can occasionally infect other species, including humans and cats.

This initial recall was because a house cat out of Oregon had died of H5N1 avian influenza. It was linked back to the Northwest Naturals product that is facing the recall currently. Laboratory tests did help confirm that this current strain of virus did come from the recalled product.

What Product Is Effected Currently

The affected products are clearly identified by their "Best if used by" dates: 05/21/26 B10 and 06/23/26 B1
