Ingham Township is getting a new park! A piece of the former Freer Farm will now include soccer fields, walking paths, a playground, and more.

It'll be open before we know it! The parks grand opening is April, 19. If you've been eager to get out and enjoy the warm weather, according to FOX 47, you can walk the half mile long path at Freer park. The park will cover 15 acres of the farm.

The name comes from the Freer family who've owned the land since the 1900s. The idea to purchase was Ingham Township Trustee Dave Harns idea. He says the township purchased the land from the Freer family four years ago and had to push back building because of the pandemic.

Harns wanted to bring the local kids a place to play. He told FOX 47 that most of them have had to travel out of town to enjoy outdoor sports.

Right now, the local kids travel out to White Oak Township to play soccer and baseball and softball. That's the closest area where we can have this much room. And so part of the idea was to bring some of that local here to Dansville, so that, when other teams come for games and tournaments and those types of things, that our downtown of Dansville will benefit from that.

Tim Freer is the youngest of four. After his mother's passing he and his siblings decided to sell some of the farm to the Township for $20,000. Freer says he's glad he could donate a part of the farm he and his family loved to the community.

The township only developed the front ten acres. They're leaving the back five as farmland for now.
