Michigan Teacher Now on Leave After Calling A Student the N-Word
I'm sure it's tough being a teacher but there are some things that never should be said to a student and one Michigan teacher is learning the hard way.
Teachers Are Important
Teachers play a huge role in helping shape our children in society. The bulk of that job is the parents but we would be kidding ourselves if we didn't think that school teachers help in that role.
Classrooms are more diverse than ever before and that is a good thing. I still think teachers are very underpaid for what they do and better pay would attract better teachers while rewarding the champions we already have.
A Kid's Behaviour Can Be Taxing For a Teacher
Kids can be taxing for their parents and that can be the same for teachers but both parents and teachers have to show patience and restraint in choosing the right words when a child does something wrong.
I am sure with older students it is even tougher for teachers when they have a bad apple in the classroom, but again, it's the teacher's job to show restraint and use the right words or bring in the principal to take over. A Michigan teacher is learning the hard way about choosing their words.
Longtime Teacher Allegedly Calls a 7th Grader the N-word
Just because a teacher becomes frustrated or hears a student use a term they shouldn't, the educator doesn't need to repeat the word in order to get a point across or even worse, use the word to throw back at the student.
According to WXYZ, a longtime Ann Arbor teacher heard a 13-year-old student use the N-word while speaking to a classmate then she allegedly went too far by saying as the child was leaving the room, "Why are you using the N-word when you are an N-word." Except the teacher allegedly used the actual word.
I'm as shocked as you are reading this. The problem allegedly moved to the hallway and the teacher continued using the word while another staffer was urging her to stop. The teacher has been put on administrative leave while police are looking into a possible hate crime investigation.
