According to quotewizard pothole damage costs U.S. drivers $3 billion a year.

A lot of the damage comes from punctured tires, bent or cracked wheels, or the need for a new alignment from hitting even a small pothole.

How Do Potholes Form?

Potholes form when water seeps into the road and collects underneath. When it freezes, it expands and pushes up the road's surface. As more cars drive over, more cracks form. Eventually, when the sun returns and thaws everything out, including the water trapped below the road's surface, it causes an empty pocket to be formed. That eventually collapses under the weight of traffic and then leaves behind a pothole.

Five Out Of The Box Ideas To "Fix" Michigan's Terrible Potholes

I've come up with these ideas to "fix" the potholes until actual repair work is done by the proper people. I need to stress these are only ideas and not to actually try any of them.

Flowers: They look pretty and will hopefully draw some attention to the problem.

Trees: Oxygen is great for everyone, plus made if it takes root it could soak up all the water and help prevent future potholes.

Art: This guy in Chicago has taken eyesores and transformed them into beautiful pieces of art.

Milk and Cereal: It's definitely an attention-getter and might soften the blow to your car when it hits it.

Hot Cocoa and Marshmallows: The dark color will help blend in with the road and hopefully the marshmallows will absorb some of the impact.
