A state record that stood for more than a century fell a few days ago when Greg Gasiciel set the hook on a monstrous Small Mouth Bass.

Gasiciel who lives in the tiny town of Rhodes- was fishing on Hubbard Lake when the giant fish smashed his offering on a bait casting set up. The Michigan DNR is now confirming the fish which tipped the scales at a jaw dropping 9.33 pounds and stretched the tape to 24 and a half inches is a new state record.

The previous record was set back in 1906 by W.F. Shoemaker on Long Lake in Cheboygan County. That fish was longer at 27 and a quarter inches but weighed slightly less at 9.25 pounds.

Gasiciel reeled in the new record fish on Sunday in the popular Alcona County Lake.

Now that’s a Fish Story!
