A Republican candidate for governor of Michigan has been arrested for his role in the Jan. 6 riot on the Capitol. Ryan Kelley was taken into custody by the FBI earlier today (6/9) on misdemeanor charges.

Arrest Caught on Video

NBC News reports that federal agents raided Kelley's home in Allendale earlier today. A neighbor who caught the arrest on video shared it with Grand Rapids TV station Fox-17. That amateur video is embedded below.

Four Charges Related to Jan. 6 Capitol Riot

An FBI spokesperson confirmed to NBC News that Kelley was arrested on four charges related to his 'alleged' participation in the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. Kelley's charges include disorderly conduct and willfully injuring or attacking US property.

Kelley has indeed acknowledged that he was in Washington DC for the protests preceding the Capitol riot but maintains that he never entered the Capitol.

Statement from the Department of Justice

However, a statement from an FBI agent released by the Justice Department indicates that video footage of Kelley shows his involvement in breaching the Capitol and directing others to do so as well.

"At approximately 2:20 p.m., Kelley continued to gesture to the crowd, consistently indicating that they should move towards the stairs that led to the entrance of the U.S. Capitol interior spaces," the agent states.

As of this writing, Ryan Kelley is still on the ballot for the Michigan gubernatorial race. The primary is scheduled for August 2, 2022.

The video below is difficult to watch. The action begins at about 1:45.
