Michigan Dental Association Advises Dental Offices to Close

We are more likely to hear "open up" from our Dentist, but all kidding aside, the coronavirus now has the Michigan Dental Association recommending that dental offices in our state close their doors to patients. That is, patients who are not seeking necessary or emergency care.

The M.D.A. is suggesting to their fellow dentists that they close down their offices starting today March 17th and stay closed for at least 2 weeks.

Health officials say COVID-19 is spread through person-to-person contact, and while dentists often wash their hands, sanitize tools and their work place, the closures are a precautionary measure. President Donald Trump said in a briefing Monday that COVID-19 could be around through the summer, but health officials hope that by taking extreme precautionary measures now, life will be back to normal sooner than that.

Offices are expected to reopen March 31.

The CDC says patients with a confirmed infection have reportedly had mild to severe respiratory illness with symptoms of:

• Fever
• Cough
• Shortness of breath

The best prevention for viruses, such as influenza, the common cold or COVID-19 is to:

• Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for 20 seconds. If not available, use hand sanitizer.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or upper sleeve when coughing or sneezing.
• Avoid contact with people who are sick.
• If you are sick, stay home, and avoid contact with others.
