Officials say they're mourning the unexpected death of the boys varsity basketball coach.  Steve Hewitt collapsed and died last night while on a jog.  He was just 50 years old.

MLive.com is reporting today that the death has sent shock waves through the west Michigan community where Hewitt was coach since 2005.

His death comes on the heels of another tragedy for the school.  Athletic director Robin Bye died in April after a battle with cancer.

"It's devasting, just like Robin," said Keith Konarska, superintendent of Grand Haven schools.  He described Hewitt as an incredible huiman being who was respected by both staff and parents.

While Konarska declined comment on the likely cause of death, rumors have circulated that Hewitt had previous health problems and was an avid runner to keep himself in shape.

He is survived by a wife and three sons.

Funeral arrangements are as yet incomplete.
