Allergy suffers, rejoice! The Asthma Allergy Foundation of America's 2023 report has ranked this Michigan City in the Top 30 allergy capitals in the U.S.! I know, you want to know which city it is...let's see if you can guess based on the places in this metro area you can visit that will most aggravate your sniffling, sneezing, coughing, and itching ailments.
This Michigan City, Like All Others, Has its Allergy Peek Times
Before you book your allergy filled-vacation, be sure to book an Air-B-N-Sneeze during Michigan's prime allergy seasons. That's right, you have two opportunities for your nose burn fire red in this Michigan allergy Mecca! Mid-April to late July and August to October are the best times to visit so your coughing and stifled sneezes can scare those around you. Yes, you read that right. Mid-April to late July INTO August to October. You might get a day in between. Maybe an hour or so if you're lucky.
Where to Find the Most Pollen-Rich Places in This Michigan Allergy Capitol
Even though any rational person with allergies would steer clear of such a sneeze-inducing environment, let's take a look at the place with the biggest concentration of allergens that are sure to make your eyes water and your nose run:
For starters, why not stroll through the beautiful Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park? The abundant flowers and plants are sure to increase your misery. If that doesn't work you can always pet the many animals at the John Ball Zoo.
If you're feeling adventurous you could take a hike on any one of a slew of parks and nature preserves. Nature preserves, otherwise known to allergy sufferers as unbridled misery left to run amok.
For some indoor fun, why not visit one of this city's many museums? You're sure to encounter some dust inside the Gerald R. Ford Museum while you learn about our nation's 38th president while sneezing uncontrollably. What fun!
If you haven't figured it out yet....drum roll...it's Grand Rapids.
All kidding aside Grand Rapids is an incredible town that deserves, at minimum, a weekend to explore. Load up on Benadryl, grab some tissues, and have some fun exploring one of the Mitten States' best cities, and now the official Allergy Capital of Michigan.
