Lawmakers are hoping that expanding the law will lead to more participation.

Yesterday, Rep. Jon Hoadley (D-Kalamazoo) and Sen. Sean McCann (D-Kalamazoo) introduced a bill in Lansing yesterday that would include non-carbonated beverages for bottle return deposits in Michigan.

Currently, as the law stands, most carbonated beverage bottles can be returned for a 10 cent refund, including beer and soft drinks. Under the new bill, non-carbonated beverages, such as water and tea, would be included. Basically, everything but milk cartons.

No lie, this would totally affect our bottle returns. We don't drink much pop or beer in our house, but we DO drink a LOT of bottled water. It would be nice to be able to recycle it. What do you think?
