Lakeside living

There is something amazing about being on the water.

For me it's the sound of the water along the shoreline. The subtle sound it makes with each wave. That is total serenity for me. Visiting someone's home or cottage on the lake is fun, however having my own dwelling someday would be awesome.

I grew up on Lake Michigan, I miss the water. When I moved to the Lansing area people suggested I check out Lake Lansing. Ok, I appreciated the suggestion but Lake Lansing pales in comparison to the big lake.

The old statement "beggars can't be choosers" is true. I love the water that much that I need to enjoy the lakes and water around me. Going to Lake Lansing is fun. There are a bunch of other lakes in the area that would be great to live on.

Berkshire Hathaway listed some of the lakes in the mid Michigan area that would be good for living on. I think it would be great to go to work each day and return home to a house on the lake, it's like a vacation every time you come home. Of course having lake front property comes at a cost. Best part about it is that you will have a nice retirement home for you when you hang up the "boots" and retire.

This is a dream of mine, although it's not realistic right now, here are some lakes in the mid Michigan area that you could enjoy living on.

Lake Lansing - Haslett

Lake Lansing tops the list of most desirable waterfront property in Greater Lansing. Lake Lansing is about 260 acres and is one of the largest lakes in Greater Lansing. Lake Lansing allows motor boats, kayaking, canoeing and other, non-motorized boats. There are about 280 homes on its shores.

Park Lake - Bath Township

Park Lake has 186 acres. Park Lake is quieter than most Lansing area lakes and it makes for a good fishing experience.

Lake Geneva - Dewitt

Lake Geneva is a private lake located in Dewitt. This private lake is restricted to members of the Lake Geneva Property Owners Association, including the boat launch and two beaches and playgrounds. Because of exclusive access and the restriction on wakes, Lake Geneva has a peaceful, quiet atmosphere. There are some nice homes on the lake, I have been here many times.

Scenic Lake - Laingsburg

Scenic Lake is an approximately 140 acre lake located in Laingsburg. Scenic Lake is  a private lake, with the surrounding beaches owned and maintained by by Scenic Lake Property Owners Association. With no public access, use of the lake is restricted to members only.

Lake Victoria - Laingsburg

Lake Victoria is another private lake located between Lake Ovid and Laingsburg northeast of Lansing. The 139-acre private lake is managed and maintained by the Lake Victoria property owners association. There are 657 owner-occupied lots surrounding Lake Victoria, with some owners occupying the area for more than 30 years.

Duck Lake - Calhoun County

Duck Lake is located about 25 miles southwest of Lansing between I-69 and M-127. Duck Lake is big, at 629 acres.

Narrow Lake - Eaton County

Narrow Lake is about two miles north of Duck Lake. Narrow Lake is about 100 acres.

Jordan Lake - Lake Odessa

I learned something new today about Lake Odessa. Lake Odessa lay on the shores of Jordan Lake, with Tupper Lake on the other side, but no actual “lake” Odessa exists.  This 430 acre lake is huge with no restrictions on public use or wakes.

Rainbow Lake - Perrinton

Located about 40 miles directly north of Lansing. Rainbow Lake is a private lake maintained by the local property owner’s association. Rainbow Lake is about 300 acres.
