A water safety advocacy group just recently released a new statistic of drownings in Lake Michigan, and they are at a high this week.

So far, 53 people have drowned in Lake Michigan. In 2019, 48 people drowned and 42 people drowned in 2018.

The previous record was 49 back in 2010, according to WILX.

There have been a total of 434 drownings in Lake Michigan since 2010. The group began tracking drownings back in 2010.
