I must say I really like the bill introduced this week in the South Carolina House of Representatives.  It is time for our elected leaders to start pushing back.

The bill titled “South Carolina Responsible Journalism Registry Law,” looks to set up criteria on what qualifies a person as a “journalist”.  Sounds good to me, they want a gun registry why not a journalist registry?

The bill was introduced in the South Carolina House of Representatives by Republican Representative Mike Pitts, he is quoted in The Daily Caller stating the following:

“It strikes me as ironic that the first question is constitutionality from a press that has no problem demonizing firearms, with this statement I’m talking primarily about printed press and TV. The TV stations, the six o’clock news and the printed press has no qualms demonizing gun owners and gun ownership.”

Why not have a registry?  These so called “journalist” have a lot of clout in shaping opinion on issues they report or do not report on.  If we can all agree on that then should they not be held to a higher standard than a blogger?

As many of you might know for years I have been blaming the huge partisan divide on the main stream media.  They choose what to report on and what details of an issue they will inform the public about.

Many on the right are very concerned about the extreme liberal bias in many news outlets which cause a frustration which only deepens the partisan divide.  What the people on the right are simply looking for is honest and full disclosure of all the facts and thoughts from both sides of an issue to help them form their opinion on an issue.

If “journalist” allow agenda to creep into their reporting then we really do not have a free press.

Let’s discuss this today on my program, The Live with Renk show, which airs Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to noon, to let me know your thoughts at (269) 441-9595.
