Worldwide Jeep is recalling 228,000 SUV's due to a software problem that can cause side air bags to randomly inflate for no reason.

Jeep Cherokees from 2014 and 2015 are covered by the recall.

Fiat Chrysler, the makers of Jeeps, are reporting a small number of air bags that have deployed due to the software malfunction.  According to Canadian safety regulators the issued has mostly occurred while vehicles were off-road.  Currently Chrysler is unaware of any accidents caused by the issue, but the sudden inflation of air bags can startle drivers which in turn could cause an accident.

The majority of vehicles being recalled are located in the United States and Canada.  If you own a 2014 or 2015 Jeep dealerships will fix the problem by re-calibrating the software.
