Jackson residents, get ready for The City of Jackson's Department of Public Work to start their Fall Fire Hydrant Flushing Program, which is set to start on Monday, September 23.

East Lansing residents, you can expect to see Hydrant flushing in your areas as well. If you're from East Lansing, expect the areas of Abbot Road just north of Wolf Court, Gainsborough Drive and Bessemaur Drive inside the city limits.

According to Fox 47, the flushing will take place Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM and should last up to 2-3 weeks.

Flushing out the hydrants is necessary to remove the iron and other sediments out of them. During this time, water may become discolored, but will still be fine to drink.

You may want to attempt to get all of your laundry done early, as water pressure will be lower during this time, and may make it difficult to access water to use.

Please remember, if you are driving around a hydrant that is currently being flushed, slow down and use caution.

You can find more information here, and if you are a Jackson residents with questions about the flushing, you are urged to direct your questions to the Jackson Department of Public Works Water Division at 517-788-4170
