WILX.com reports that the Jackson County Animal Shelter has suspended all adoptions and new shelter intakes for cats.

The quarantine is in place for two weeks as shelter officials treat its cats for distemper. Distemper is a highly contagious virus that is potentially deadly for cats. there is a laundry list of possible symptoms for distemper, including excessive sneezing, runny nose, fever, loss of balance and many more.
