Jeanna Trotman, the energetic and insightful sports reporter loved by so many across Michigan is setting down the mic and hitting pause.

Trotman is among the most loved and respected sports reporters ever to deliver the 'action' in Mid-Michigan. As the former sports director at WEYI/WSMH, the NBC & FOX  in Flint, we were sad to see her leave for Detroit when she joined the sports team at WXYZ. She announced she will leave the station this week just as the Lions season gets underway.

Trotman posted on her social media that September 6th will be her last day at WXYZ

"I will forever be grateful for the people & stories over these last three years. I’ve lived my childhood dream at the very station I grew up watching. I’m excited to see what is next & will take this moment to lean into my family & myself", she wrote.

Trotman graduated from Henry Ford II High School in Sterling Heights and earned a communication degree at Lake Superior State University in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. A stellar athlete herself, she was a four-year NCAA Division-II student-athlete playing volleyball at Lake Superior State.

Having just chatted with Jeanna at the Ally Challenge presented by McLaren, I reached out to talk with her about her decision to end her time in Detroit. "It was so hard to make the decision. I went back and forth for weeks. Ultimately, I trust my gut, but I’m just sad", she said.

I asked her about what are her fondest memories and favorite stories she had the chance to tell while the face of sports both in Flint and Detroit.

"My favorite stories are the ones that matter to people, the high school Athletes overcoming obstacles in Flint and Saginaw and Detroit and beyond. I’ve loved covering the Lions because I know how much that process has meant to the city of Detroit. I lived it myself. The pride and support of this team has been overwhelming and to be a part of those moments are what you dream of."

With no definitive plan for 'what's next', Trotman says spending time with her husband, former NHL player Zach Trotman, and her children Luca, 3 1/2, and Quinn 16 months, and of course her fur babies Murphy and Callie.

She will forever have a special place in her heart for the Flint area sports fans and community.

"I loved my time in Flint. It is what prepared me for Detroit. Those people and stories are what I’ll never forget. I carried them To Detroit and I’ll carry them to whatever is next."

We wish you the best Jeanna.
