Michigan’s All-Time Highest Temps By Month May Surprise You

From Ann Arbor to Marquette, Michigan has seen its fair share of high temperatures...even during the winter months.

We already told you that the 1936 North American heat wave was one of the most severe heat waves in the modern history of North America. In July of that same year, Michigan endured the hottest temperature ever recorded in the state. It reached a brutal 112 degrees in Mio. For people living in 1936 without air conditioners, it was hell on earth.

While many Michiganders are well aware of that record-breaking heatwave, I found myself curious about other high-temperature records throughout Michigan's history. Which cities experienced the highest temperatures and in what years were they observed?

Upon conducting some research, I was shocked to discover just how warm some Michigan winters were. Although I wasn't alive in 1950, if I had been, I would have experienced temperatures in the 70s in January... for real. It's true; in 1950, Ann Arbor reached 72 degrees.

I was obviously around in the 90s, but for the life of me, I don't remember the February heatwave that took place in 1999. Again, temperatures got into the 70s.

We experienced a really mild winter this year and even saw some record-breaking temperatures. Hopefully, that doesn't roll over into this summer with a record-breaking heatwave. The last thing we need is a repeat of 1936.
