Michigan Bakery Revives Kmart’s Famous Submarine Sandwich
Has Kmart been resurrected? No... but its sub has.
The now shuttered Kmart used to be a shopping giant across Michigan. I remember many a back-to-school shopping trip going there and, if I was lucky, grabbing some in-store café popcorn or some other yummy snack on the way out.
One of the most beloved items off that Kmart café menu was the lunchmeat submarine sandwich. A "basic" sandwich in its ingredients and preparation: bologna, ham, salami, American cheese, shredded lettuce, tomato, white onion, and mustard, all wrapped in plastic wrap.
Michigan Bakery Brings Back Nostalgic Kmart Sub
This famous Kmart sub has been resurrected by Villa Bakery in Garden City, Michigan.
Villa Bakery already has a very serious following, with over 40K followers on Facebook. They're most well known for their pizza breads, specialty paczki, and their take on the Sanders Bumpy Cake. However, absolutely everything they make is delicious.

This is especially evident in how popular these 'Vmart' subs have been (as Villa Bakery has been affectionately calling them).
After teasing the Vmart sub, Villa Bakery opened at 7 am the next day to a line of people stretching well beyond the door waiting to get theirs.

Villa Bakery isn't just selling a delicious sub, they're selling nostalgia... at $5.99 per sub.
