I know that winter isn't Michigan's most popular season. Sure, you've got the fun outdoor activities, the holiday spirit, and a built-in excuse to consume an excessive amount of hot cocoa.

But I'm sure that Michiganders are already tired of the bitterly cold temperatures, frigid wind chills, and long, dark days.

However, soon enough, the sun will come out and things will start to warm up.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), mosquitoes kill "more people than any other creature in the world." Pretty deadly for something so tiny.

For so many people mosquitoes are more of a nuisance than anything. Leaving behind an itchy red bump and nothing more. However, mosquitoes can and do spread deadly diseases, such as malaria, dengue, West Nile, yellow fever, Zika, chikungunya, and lymphatic filariasis.

When Do Mosquitoes Come Back to Michigan?

Mosquitoes need it to warm up a bit before making their return. So once temperatures start to consistently stay above 50 degrees, watch out, because like the Terminator, they'll be back.

However, Michigan should still have at least a couple of good months before we actually have to worry about that.

Mosquito Magnet says that mosquito season typically starts in early May for Michigan. However, there's always the chance of warm spells bringing them out before it gets cold again.

If you want to stay ahead of the game, something you can do to avoid mosquitoes is looking around the house and yard for places they could be hiding. Mosquitoes love standing water and damp thing like clogged drains.

Tackle those home projects, and good luck this mosquito season.
