You just never know what you're going to catch when you go magnet fishing, at least that's what one TikToker showed us when he went magnet fishing in Lansing.

Magnet Fishing in Michigan

I was doing my usual TikTok scrolling when I came across this Lansing-centric video about magnet fishing that really piqued my interest.

Magnet fishing is similar to regular fishing, in that you cast a line. However, instead of a hook, that line has a strong magnet at the end of it. And instead of trying to catch fish, you're trying to scour for metal-based treasures. Things like coins, bikes, jewelry, license plates, and even those electric scooters.

One Michigander and TikToker likes to travel across the Mitten State to go magnet fishing.

Named @michiganmagnetman on TikTok, he's visited the Red Cedar River in East Lansing before and chronicled how he fished 11 electric scooters out of the river. But when he stopped by the Grand River in Lansing, he came across a much cooler find; a piece of Michigan history.

When @michiganmagnetman fished in the Grand River, he found a license plate. But, not just any old license plate, this one was from 1914. Michigan had only begun to issue license plates in 1910, so this is a pretty cool find.

There are a few more items he finds with this haul, but the 1914 license plate is the coolest. But you can check out the whole video below, if you'd like.
