​If you were looking to go and enjoy some Mexican causine, you might want to check out the listings before you head over to your favorite restaurant. A popular chain just filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, on March 4, 2025.

Popular Michigan Restaurant Chain Files For Bankruptcy

The popular chain On the Border Mexican Grill and Cantina, a restaurant chain that originated out of Dallas, Texas back in 1982, appears to be in some financial distress, after they announced a Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.

The chain might be most notable for its fajitas and margaritas. The company underwent several ownership changes from 1994, when acquired by Brinker International, to Golden Gate Capital in 2010, and finally, to Argonne Capital group in 2014.

At this time, there are 60 company owned restaurants in the entire U.S. as well as South Korea. There is one location, located in Allen Park here in Michigan.

The company announced that it plans to keep all locations opened at this time, with no changes in staffing.

The filing comes after rises in product cost, labor shortages, as well as most people shifting to dining at home more than in a restaurant. Prices have risen across the board, making it harder for the company to keep the restaurant brand a float.

There was also difficulty amongst the chain in finding people to work inside their restaurants, which led to a decrease in being able to staff these places.​
