Quality Dairy Makes and Ode to Lansing’s Truck Munching Bridge
Ahh, Lansing. The land of mouthwatering donuts, crisp cider from Quality Dairy, and, of course, Big Penny—the legendary Truck Munching Bridge. Honestly, if you’d told me these two hometown icons would team up in 2024, I wouldn’t have believed it.
I definitely didn’t have that marked on my bingo card. But here we are, watching as Penny continues to devour trucks at an alarming rate across Mid-Michigan. You’d think the truck drivers would learn by now, but nope—Penny’s appetite for oversized rigs seems insatiable this year.
Even Google Maps recognizes Big Penny now!
Who Is Big Penny?
Where do we even start with Penny?
She’s become a true Lansing legend. Nestled by Potter Park Zoo, this unassuming pedestrian bridge has a notorious reputation for tearing the tops off trucks. Despite all the warning signs and flashing lights, Penny’s low clearance continues to catch drivers off guard.
Big Penny Strikes Again!
Time after time, tall vehicles try their luck—and lose, meeting the iron jaws of this "Truck Munching Bridge." At this point, it’s hard to say who’s more famous: Penny or the drivers who keep ignoring her. Either way, she’s a local icon, always ready for her next victim.
Are we breaking a new record with penny with the amount of hits this year?

Looks like a trip to QD is in my future, because I’ve got to see this display for myself. Unlike Penny, this one won’t rip the top off your car, but it just might make your waistline expand a bit. Between the irresistible donuts, fresh cider, and all the other tempting treats Quality Dairy is known for, I’ll probably be leaving with a little more than just a story.

Maybe a few extra calories too!
But hey, for something this legendary, it's worth it.
Heads Up - These are the Lowest Clearance Bridges in Michigan
