Ten Pound Burgers, Two Pound Tacos: A Favorite Restaurant Closes in Southgate
“Say it ain't so!” shouted fans of Mallie's Sports Bar & Grill in Southgate when it announced its closure in November 2024.
What made Mallie's so special? Their GIGANTIC food portions. They had ten pound hamburgers, two pound tacos, gallon-sized Bloody Marys and more. Appetizers like the Smoked Gouda Mac & Cheese, and huge crunchy chicken wings kept bringin' 'em back for more. And on top of all those, in the 2010s, Mallie and his crew set the record for the largest cheeseburger ever - nearly 1,800 pounds.
Located on the corner of Allen Road and Northline, Mallie's shut down after 19 years, due to family illnesses. According to owner Steve Mallie, their last day was the day before Thanksgiving on Wednesday , November 27, 2024: “It was the hardest decision I had to make.....I am dealing with several family illnesses.....It was hard for me to come up with this decision, but I have to take care of my family.”

Will Mallie's come back sometime? It remains a possibility. Now, scroll down to the gallery and see for yourself: the ten pound hamburger, the two pound taco, and a few other yummies that made Mallie's legendary...
