Michigan's deer population is one of the country's largest, with an estimated 2 million or more wandering the woods and roadsides of our state. With the damage these "majestic" creatures cause, both agricultural chaos and automotive mayhem, you'd think it would be open season year-round. Alas, it's a fall season, but there are several species you can hunt any time of the year in the Mitten State.

Until March of 2024, one of Michigan's most intrusive species was free game all year. However, according to Bridge Michigan, the coyote season was cut short by a month, giving these canines the month of March to catch their breath. That doesn't mean there aren't other species you can hunt year-round.
Year-Round Conservation
There are some species in Michigan that are either overpopulated or create a 'nuisance' for residents. These animals have the unfortunate distinction of being one of the five species you can hunt no matter the date on the calendar.
The only requirement to take your bag limit is to carry the proper license so that you can be in compliance with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), which enforces hunting laws in our fine state.
