Brace Yourself for a Wet, Hot ‘La Nina’ Michigan Summer
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), using current data and weighing it against past Michigan summers, has released its long-term forecast, including Michigan's warmest and seemingly fastest months, June, July, and August. Fans of humidity and heat are in for a treat this year.

While not an absolute certainty, the NOAA outlook predicts Michigan will see all the ingredients for higher-than-average temperatures and precipitation. Let's look at what factors contribute to NOAA's Michigan summer outlook.
NOAA Predicts a Hot and Humid Michigan Summer in 2024
Michigan summers are notoriously, well, Michigan summers. They range from sunny and 75, with dry conditions to ridiculously humid days that make you want to forget the day you ever heard the term "heat index." On a highly sticky day, it's not uncommon to either hear someone utter or personally resist the urge to say, "It wouldn't be so bad without the humidity."
With NOAA predicting an El Nino to La Nina flip in the summer, Lower Michigan is expected to see above-normal precipitation. This prediction is based partly on the six other times since 1950 that we've seen a similar switch in Pacific Ocean temperatures.
Now, what about that heat? NOAA forecasts a 40-50% chance that we'll see above-normal temperatures throughout the state. While the northern part of the state can anticipate more of a 'dry heat,' the southern portion of Michigan will feel heat and humidity come together and hear the 'heat index' as part of their daily forecast throughout the summer.

This kind of summer is excellent for beachgoing, gardening, and tourism in Michigan. However, it also means it will feel like walking into what feels like a hot, sticky furnace that is out to flatten hair, make you sweat, and seek the sweet relief of a pool, lake, or air-conditioned home.
