Brooklyn Speedway: Michigan International Speedway’s Former “Little Brother”
The Jackson County town of Brooklyn is known for playing host to Michigan International Speedway, attracting thousands of visitors each racing season. But Brooklyn once had an entirely different speedway for a number of years.
For approximately twenty years, Brooklyn was also home to the Brooklyn Speedway, a go-kart track that was located at 11541 Brooklyn Road.
It was a family-friendly spot that originated sometime in the 1960s and lasted until approximately 2010.

Michigan International Speedway opened on October 13, 1968 and with each coming year gained more and more popularity, customers, and party-goers. Taking a cue from the track’s reputation, the go-kart track opened as a fun little off-shoot, keeping within Brooklyn’s notoriety as a racing mecca. Being only a short 2 ½ miles north of the race track, the go-kart track became viewed as Michigan International Speedway’s “little brother”.
Brooklyn Speedway has been discontinued for a good number of years, but satellite images plainly show remnants of the old track. In the 2020s, the former go-kart track is now home to Chevron Express Lube and the Mark Prielipp Greenhouse & Mohr.
