Warmer-than-average temperatures are forecasted for much of the country, including Michigan, throughout October and November. Here's what you can expect across the state and in surrounding areas.

The Upper Peninsula typically sees its first accumulating snow in mid to late October, but this year's lingering warmth may push that back -- considerably. The Weather Channel predicts the above-average temperatures forecast to stay in the Great Lakes region through November. Snowflakes may hold off until early to mid-November for cities like Marquette and Sault Ste. Marie, but it could wait to make an appearance as late as December.

As for the Lower Peninsula, where snow usually arrives fashionably late and stays way past its welcome, this year's delay could mean southern Michigan, including Jackson, Lansing, and Ann Arbor, might not see measurable snow until closer to Thanksgiving or early December. That's good news for Trick or Treaters in Michigan.

If you're wondering when snow will fall on our neighbors in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, expect similar delays. First snowfalls there might not arrive until late November or early December, as the warmth stretches across the majority of the Midwest.

This could shift in December. A weak La Nina pattern is expected, which brings the possibility of a cold-than-average winter for most of the northern United States, including Michigan. This could mean early onset of bitter cold by December, especially for the Upper Peninsula.
