Gizzardpalooza: Joe’s Gizzard City, Potterville
There are certain foods that are difficult to get some people to eat...or even try once. Limburger cheese, liver, anchovies, tripe, blood sausage, brains, head cheese, raw oysters, beef tongue.....and gizzards.
However, if you are able to get that hard-nosed person in your life to try the deep-fried gizzards at Joe’s Gizzard City, that person just may become a fan. Most of the time it’s the word itself that scares people away.
Joe’s gizzards are boiled until tender, then breaded in a seasoned mixture, deep-fried to a golden brown, and served with cocktail sauce. Upon trying them for the first time, many customers liken the taste experience to that of eating deep-fried shrimp dipped in the cocktail sauce. And it’s difficult to stop eating then once you try...

Gizzard City is the icon of Potterville, Michigan. It’s been family-owned since 1960 and passed through the generations. For those who are too weak-hearted to try the gizzards, they can enjoy burgers, hot sandwiches, onion rings, chicken dinners, and more while you scarf down your second helping of those tender gizzards.
By the way, for the skeptics out there, just what exactly is a gizzard? According to Dictionary.com, it’s "a thick-walled, muscular pouch in the lower stomach of many birds and reptiles that grinds food, often with the aid of ingested stones or grit".
If you’re trying in vain to get someone to try a gizzard, that description does not help much, does it?
Head over to Joe’s sometime soon, located at 120 W. Main Street in Potterville. if it was good enough for TV’s Guy Fieri of Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives, it’s good enough for that stubborn person in your life...
