LIsten, I know we joke a lot about hating Ohio... which we do... but it's never gotten to the point where things have been violent for a long time. So when an F-16 out of Toledo dropped full fuel tanks on Michigan, then turned right around  and landed safely back home, there had to be questions asked.

Why the hell did an Ohio jet bomb us with fuel tanks?

The Ohio National Guard was apparently taking part in some flight training and drills earlier this week when an F-16 based out of Toledo "CLAIMS" it was in distress, and made a call to the proper channels.

The plane was accompanied by another F-16 that didn't report any issues, but did follow the jet back to Toledo where they both landed safely, but NOT before leaving behind a little something for the state of Michigan.

Deputies in Iosco County say the jet dropped both of its fuel tanks to return to its base, but in the process, one landed in a parking lot near East Tawas, where it briefly caught fire and damaged a few vehicles. The second tank landed in Lake Huron, north of Baldwin Resort Road and exploded!

Thankfully, though, no Michiganders were hurt in the incident. (Also, no Ohioans.)

The jets were part of the Toledo 180th Fighter Squadron, and the plane in question was identified as "Buzz 11." The U.S. Coastguard says they have successfully collected the lost fuel tank in Lake Huron, and military officials gathered what was left of the tank that fell in the parking lot.

Maybe the biggest question is, though, what happened? The pilot "CLAIMS" they had an emergency, but maybe it was just a jaded Ohioan, who wanted to "stick it to those Michiganders," ya know?

But for real... all joking aside, we're glad nobody was hurt, and that the pilots are safe. We KNOW there was no malice in the incident, and the pilot did what they had to do to protect themselves, and as many people as possible in the incident. But it is still interesting what the Ohio National Guard was doing in Michigan Air Space.
