America's favorite french fries could be in trouble. McDonald's biggest provider of french fries has just called it quits at one of their factories, and soon, Michigan stores could be facing a fry shortage, along with the rest of the country.

So instead of asking, "Do you want Fries with that?" McDonald's in Michigan may soon just tell you, "You CAN'T have fries with that."

Lamb Weston, who is an Idaho-based company, announced recently they would be cutting up to 4% of their workforce, and more cuts could come soon. As a result, one of the company's biggest, and oldest factories in Connell, Washington is now completely shut down.

Not only is Lamb Weston claiming that the cost of worker wages has severely cut into the company's profits, but CEO Tom Werner is specifically blaming the $5 meal deal at McDoanld's for their issues.

"Restaurant traffic and frozen potato demand, relative to supply, continue to be soft, and we believe it will remain soft through the remainder of fiscal 2025."

McDonald's introduced the $5 meal deal back in May as an affordable meal option for American families as they've been struggling in times of high inflation, and a cost of living that many jobs can't keep up with in wages.

But now, Michigan McDonald's, as well as others across the country, could see a dip in the amount of fries they receive for sale.

That being said, a spokesperson from Lamb Weston claims there will be little disruption.

"Lamb Weston is confident in the world's ongoing love of fries - the closure of one of our older facilities accounts for less than 5% of our production capacity, so this adjustment simply helps address a current supply-and-demand imbalance."

This isn't the first time McDonald's has been having Fry issues in 2024, as supply chain problems prohibited them from shipping to their stores in Korea back in June. During that time period, Korean McDonald's simply didn't offer meal deals with fries, and simply gave away medium sodas with the purchase of any burger on the menu.

So if this fry production shortage does rear its head in Michigan, you might have more to complain about than the ice cream machine being down all the time.
