Were you shocked? I think we all were in a way. After all they were playing Kansas City, in Kansas City, one of the hardest football stadiums to play in as a visitor. We all held out hope that after their strong finish in the second half of last year's season they might have found something strange for them, a way to win a football game. But they were the Lions. Ha! Not this time.

People across America have been jumping on the Lions bandwagon, too. And suddenly they were becoming the darling and one of the most likable football teams in the country. Say what? Well, after being the laughing stock of the NFL for so long, after not having won a division title since 1993, not won a playoff game since 1991, still not winning a championship since 1957, you'd laugh at the team too.

Don't forget, even Lions fans would say that same thing after another loss, same old, same old Lions. They'd always find a way to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory.

Granted, the win Thursday night is only one game, one win, but there really is a new confidence, talent and leadership in Detroit that is creating greater expectations and hope.

Everyone likes to root for an underdog, but people also gravitate to a winner, too. Now it looks like possibly, just possibly, the Detroit Lions have flipped from the look of a sad-sack loser team to the look of a winner, and we long suffering Lions fans are basking in that glow.
