Where is Best Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich in Grand Rapids?

Oh, YUM, who doesn't love a classic Philly Cheesesteak sandwich. But where are you going to find the real deal in Grand Rapids?

I could have said that Big Shawn's would have to be number one, but sadly she closed and is looking for a new location.

Well, here are my top six spots according to YELP reviews, and myself, where you'll find a mouthwatering Philly delight. I tried to keep it at just five, but I had to throw in one more, and you'll see why when you read on.

1. New York Fried Chicken

Hold it. A Fried Chicken restaurant that has Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches? They sure do and people are raving about it. They are located at 743 Division, South.

2. Great Steak Cheesesteak

They are located at 3195 28th Street, in Woodland Mall. Yes it's mall food, but people are saying it's a great sandwich.

3. Schnitz Deli

Schnitz Deli,1315 Fulton St. E in Grand Rapids, is one of my favorite spots that serves up hearty sandwiches served on fresh bread that comes right from Schnitz Bakery next door.

The Philly Cheese Steak is decked with grilled sliced rib-eye, onions and melted provolone cheese on a French roll.

4. Eastern Deli

This place, at 2011 Eastern Ave. in Seymore Square, has been opened since 2000, and does it right with Philly cheesesteak subs, gyros, burgers, chicken tenders and more.

On your Philly cheesesteak sub you choose from  chicken or beef, as well as grilled green peppers and onions, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo.

5. O’Brien’s Deli & Burgers

O’Brien’s Deli, at 1200 East Paris Ave., SE, is another great spot.

Their cheesesteak sandwich is topped with shaved London broil, grilled onions, peppers, mushrooms, provolone cheese and horsey sauce.

6. Blue Dog Tavern

I just love the Blue Dog Tavern, on Grand Rapids’ West Side, at 638 Stocking, at 4th Street. Remember the Kopper Top? It is now the Blue Dog.

I knew them for their delicious burgers, hot dogs, tater tots and drinks, and now their  delicious Philly cheesesteak.

The West Side Philly sandwich is topped with seasoned ribeye, peppers, onion and house made cheese sauce served on Swiss oval bread. Oh my! They had me at house made cheese sauce!
