This West Michigan Brewery Makes The Most Craft Beer

West Michigan is home to some amazing breweries that are loved by Michiganders and craft beer connoisseur's from all around the world.

Some of my personal favorite West Michigan breweries are Saugatuck Brewing Company, Grand Armory Brewing, Odd Side Ales, and The Mitten Brewing Company.

Out of all of the West Michigan breweries, this is the one experts say cranks out the most craft beer.

New Holland Brewing Co. is the biggest craft beer maker in West Michigan.

This is according to the Brewers Association, which looks at how many barrels of beer each brewery made in 2023.

In 2023, New Holland brewed 37,266 barrels of beer.

That's more than three times the second place craft brewery in West Michigan.

The next biggest was Saugatuck Brewing Company, which made 12,244 barrels.

After that, the numbers drop a lot.

Odd Side Ales in Grand Haven made 4,787 barrels in 2023.

The only craft brewery in the entire state of Michigan that made more beer than New Holland was Short's Brewing Co. in Elk Rapids, who churned out 43,870 barrels.

What About These Other Big Michigan Breweries?

While New Holland is the biggest craft brewery, some of the biggest overall breweries in West Michigan are not considered "craft."

These include Bell's, which made 467,000 barrels, and Founders, which made 408,896 barrels.

These two breweries, along with Atwater, made close to 1 million barrels combined with the West Michigan craft brewers.
