Michigan State Police Crack Down On Speeding During 4th Of July Weekend
The 4th of July holiday weekend is kicking off for many in West Michigan, and while you're probably excited to get to the party and get those fireworks going- make sure you're following the rules of the road or you may end up on the side of the highway getting a speeding ticket.
Michigan State Police are warning drivers that they'll be out and watching this weekend, and ready to give tickets to anyone who is speeding.
Speeding during the 4th of July weekend in Michigan is particularly dangerous due to increased traffic from holiday travelers, visitors, and events. With more cars on the road, the risk of accidents rises, and speeding reduces reaction time, making collisions more likely and severe.
MSP officers are also trying to correct an alarming trend we've seen growing over the past few years. In 2022 Michigan saw close to 27,000 crashes that involved speeding, which was an alarming 8.7 percent increase from 2021's numbers.
Additionally, because law enforcement is heightened during this period, you're likely to come across more speed traps and sobriety checkpoints than a usual weekend. Getting caught speeding can result in hefty fines, points on your driving record, higher insurance premiums, and possible license suspension.
