What is Smishing?
Smishing is a type of phishing attack that uses text messages instead of emails to trick people into revealing sensitive information or clicking on malicious links. In this case, the scammers are sending text messages that look like they're from toll road authorities, such as the Indiana Toll Road or the Illinois Tollway.
How The Smishing Scam Works
The text messages claim that the recipient has unpaid tolls and must pay a fine to avoid further action. The message includes a link that the recipient is urged to click to pay the supposed fine.
