Michigan Representative Mistakes Men’s Basketball Team For “Illegal Invaders”
There is nothing that makes me chuckle more than ignorance on full display, and then seeing someone double down when they are just utterly wrong. However, things quickly change from hilarity to embarrassment when the stupid person is a state representative from your home state.
Matt Maddock
Rep. Matt Maddock has been a conservative representative for the 51st House District since 2019. His X bio states he is "Trump Endorsed, Ranked Most Conservative State Representative, Freedom Caucus, Anti-communist," which I mention only because it is pertinent later in this article.
Detroit Metro Airport's "Illegal Invaders"
On Wednesday, March 29th, Rep. Maddock took to X to share photos showing three large buses with a police escort at the Metro Detroit Airport. This prompted Rep. Maddock to tweet the following:
The "illegal invaders on buses" Rep. Maddock is referring to is related to a move Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas started in 2022 where migrants are placed on buses and driven to different cities around the country to stop Texas from "shouldering the burdens imposed by open-border advocates in out parts of the country."
However, He Was Very Wrong
The reason Rep. Maddock is being ripped online is because of his claim that the buses had "illegal invaders" when in reality, the people being transported were the Gonzaga Men's Basketball team who play at the Little Ceaser's Arena on Friday night. The police were there to escort the team to the arena.
As mentioned in the tweet above, the team boarded an Allegiant flight. You can see in this tweet from Gonzaga Men's Basketball that the team is boarding an Allegiant Airlines flight. These are not "illegal invaders" as Rep. Maddock claimed.

Maddock Responds
The part of this story that does get funny again is Maddock's responses to people in his replies. I mentioned that Rep. Maddock is anti-communist, and instead of listening to reason or fact-checking his claim, he just started calling people communists.
The whole ordeal is funny for all the wrong reasons, but thankfully the internet worked together to dispel any inconsistencies made by the tweet.
