I did a lot of yard work this weekend and noticed my apple trees looked amazing. It turns out that the 2024 crop is having its best bloom in years.

I have a picture window that overlooks my property. I was looking out of the window Saturday morning to see if there were any turkeys or deer in the alfalfa field before I went into the yard to do some work, I noticed the apple trees were in full bloom.

As I was gassing up my ATV for a day of cleanup behind the barn I noticed my favorite apple tree was in full bloom which got me to walk over and take a closer look. I then observed some bees were getting some nectar so I thought I would move on. Then I spotted a few morels. I got sidetracked with the morels but enjoyed those the next day for supper.

I had to run a couple of errands that got me down M-37 and boy were those apple farms looking good with all the trees in bloom.  The mild winter and warmer spring are setting up Michigan's apple farmers with what could be one of the best seasons to date.

Michigan had a solid crop of apples last year but the number was down about 6% from the previous year. If Mother Nature continues to have great weather Michigan apple farmers could have a record-breaking season for all varieties.
