It’s getting to be the time of year when cold and flu viruses spread through the country. This year however the perils of getting ill could be far worse.

Enterovirus 68 is what the Centers for Disease Control think is the culprit behind thousands of sick kids in at least 40 states now. Some of the sick kids are being struck down by paralysis in addition to severe lung infections.

Now the CDC is confirming the first case of Ebola in the United States. The foreign national has been identified with the disease in Dallas, Texas.

Meanwhile A mosquito-borne virus that can cause debilitating joint pain lasting has spread to the U.S. after infecting hundreds of thousands of people in the Caribbean. At least 11 cases have been identified so far. The virus is called Chikungunya. The only recorded cases in the U.S. before this summer involved patients who contracted the virus abroad.

So if you or your children have some cold and flu symptoms you may want to pay a little extra attention this year.
