Inmate Recaptured After Escape From Calhoun County Corrections

An inmate was captured hours after walking away from the Calhoun County Correctional facility by Lansing Police.

On February 2, Edwin Lammar Walker, an inmate worker walked away from the Calhoun County Correctional Center. At approximately 4:45 a.m., the inmate worker was assigned to a non-secure area of the facility and walked out using an emergency exit. At approximately 5:09 a.m., the kitchen manager notified the facilities custody staff that he had an inmate worker unaccounted for. The 43 year old was serving a one-year sentence for possession of cocaine and was assigned to the kitchen.

Calhoun County Sheriff Matt Saxton said Walker was caught in Lansing about 9:45 a.m. after stealing a U-Haul Rental truck in Emmett Township. Walker ran from and fought with Lansing Police during apprehension. Walker will continue serving his current sentence and face additional charges for escape, resisting police and theft.

Sheriff Saxton also noted that the inmate was not believed to be a threat to the public.
